MURDER OF ATHEIST O’HAIR
A collection of newspaper articles surrounding the disappearance, search and murder of Madalyn Murray O’Hair.
In 1965 Dr. McIntire purchased radio station WXUR in Media, Pennsylvania and became engaged in a long-running battle with the Federal Communications Commission over what has been called the “Fairness Doctrine.” When the FCC refused to renew the WXUR license in 1973 the station was forced off the air. In response, Dr. McIntire´s obtained the use of a World War II minesweeper and converted it to an AM broadcast station in international waters; three miles off the Cape May, New Jersey coast.
The floating station broadcast for a total of ten hours until technical difficulties took it off the air in its first day of operation. But the notion of a “pirate” radio station off the United States coast caught the attention of the nation.
The following entries tell the story of Dr. Mcintire´s Radio Free America aboard the good ship Columbus in 1973.
Listen to a series of 33 half-hour radio programs Dr. McIntire made in preparation for his intended broadcast from the good ship Columbus off the shores of Cape May, New Jersey. These broadcasts date from August 30 to October 12, 1973.
