McIntire Broadcasts To Continue Pending Talks on ‘Censorship’

The Sunday evening broadcasts of Rev. Dr. Carl McIntire will continue indefinitely over Camden’s municipally owned radio station, WCAM, it was announced Friday as a scheduled court hearing involving the program was postponed until Feb. 7.
The broadcast, which had been taken off the air for two weeks early in December, resumed on Dec. 23 by orders of Mayor Alfred R. Pierce after attorneys for Dr. McIntire sought an injunction against what he called “religious censorship.”
By mutual agreement the injunction hearing was postponed with the understanding that the broadcasts would continue pending a meeting between the parties.
Officials hope for agreement which will protect the city against legal action arising from broadcasts for which prior text has not been submitted to the station authorities.

The minister has refused to submit scripts to WCAM 72 hours before the broadcasts.
George E. Stransky, city counsel, said Friday both parties had agreed to further postponement to the February date to allow time for discussions between the city authorities and attorneys for Dr. McIntire.
Dr. McIntire is pastor of the Bible Presbyterian Church in Collingswood.
